The 1st ICARUS Plenary meeting was organized on May 8th-9th, 2018, hosted by UCY in Nicosia. The agenda of the meeting featured progress updates on the ongoing and forthcoming ICARUS activities, as well as brainstorming sessions on the aviation data chain methodological aspects.
Day 1
During the 1st day of the meeting, an interactive demonstration workshop was held focusing on the aviation industry needs, as well as on the aviation data assets collection and intended use. OAG presented in detail the data assets that constitute its commercial offering and shall become available through the ICARUS platform through licenses that will be consistent to its business model. The 4 ICARUS demonstrators (led by AIA, PACE & TXT, ISI, CELLOCK) elaborated on their preliminary demonstrators’ scenarios that leverage the data assets available and requested (as an outcome of the Data Meeting in Luton and as documented in the ICARUS Deliverable D1.1) while extensive discussions took place in order to identify the data providers of the necessary data assets.
Before concluding the 1st day of the meeting, an overview of the state-of-play in data collection, data management and data analytics, of the requirements analysis of the aviation industry (through an extensive desk research and the ICARUS survey) and of the results of the initial datasets collection and protection were presented by UCY and Suite5.
Day 2
The 2nd day of the meeting started with an overview of the ICARUS methodology that features a set of core phases (i.e. Data Collection, Data Curation/Linking, Asset Exploration, Data Analytics, Data Visualization), as well as added-value services (e.g. Data Sharing, Data Recommendation), as explained by UCY. The participants of the meeting were then split in 2 groups (moderated by UBITECH, and Suite5) in order to brainstorm on high-level scenarios for the aviation data value chain. Upon a fruitful exchange of ideas, a number of scenarios were built from the data provider and data consumer perspectives, indicatively including the public, private and confidential data upload and analysis scenarios, and the data exploration, analysis and sharing scenarios.
The meeting continued with a brief overview and planning of the ongoing activities across the different work packages, before leaving the floor to an open discussion on the ICARUS value proposition (moderated by Suite5). A detail map of the aviation stakeholders was designed identifying a plethora of stakeholders across the 3-tiers. All participants provided their perspectives on what would convince external aviation stakeholders to upload their data in ICARUS and what are the “killer” features which the ICARUS platform should have. The prioritization of the involvement of external stakeholders (based on the demonstrators’ data asset needs) was broached, but follow-up discussions are required in the near future in order to conclude to a solid plan for approaching them at the right time (in respect to the ICARUS advancements).
The plenary meeting ended with a wrap up presentation summarizing the outcomes of the brainstorming sessions, the key activities for the next months and the action plan.
